christmas that came early

Having your birthday in December is like having a Christmas month instead of christmas day because you can get presents from any day of the month!. Yesterday was a sepecial day =) First our long awaited sofa had finally arrived!! woohoo.. we no longer had to sit on the floor or the dining chairs while watching tv. Since yoshi is really into leather goods, I tested him by putting him on the sofa.. he didn't really enjoy it and left whew.. my biggest fear was that I will come home to a chewed up sofa!!!

Yesterday after dinner, I used my kitchenaid mixer for the first time!! its my bday and christmas gift from my sister!! woohoooo! I baked banana muffin and shortbread!! i thikn the shortbread is too crunchy this time.. maybe i over baked it =P

At 10:30 at night Brian came home with my early beday gift!!! GUESS WHAT! I GOT A MACBOOK WOOHOOOO...! Thanks baby... now i need to get some software for it and more importantly learn how to use it lol!!!

o.... and HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATSY!!!!

o x'mas tree.. o x'mas tree......

THIS IS GOING TO BE THE END OF ME!!!

Thanks Patsy!!

My family, Brian and I attended the grand opening of my cousin's new Japanese restaurant last night. There were lots of people that attended and flower baskets were all over the store. After the cocktail event, we had dinner there. I only took a couple pictures cuz after the first few dishes, we were too busy stuffing food in our mouth that we totally forgot about the photos!
Prices are very reasonable, it came out to be around $100 for six people and we had A LOT of food!. Here's what we ordered:

Spinach Ramen in Milk Broth topped with Japanese Style Pork Slices
Regular Ramen in Butter & Miso Broth topped with Pork Cutlet
We really enjoyed the ramen here, the milk broth really stood out although it was a bit on the heavy side.. The ramen were made in house, they also have a squid ink one that I really wanted to try but they didn't have any yesterday.

Hot Stone Pot with chicken with ginger sauce
I think this was our favourite dish. Taste was excellent!! The ginger taste was not as strong as I expected but its perfect for my preference =)

Red, Yellow & Green roll --> I forgot the name of this dish
I have had this dish before in their previous restaurant. Our family really liked this dish because it is their speciality and we couldn't find it anywhere else. Our favourate was the yellow rolls. its a fried fish maki topped with mango slices drizzled with a mango sauce & mayo concoction. Very light yet flavorful.

other food that we ordered include dynamite roll, seven angels sushi, shrimp tempura and a chicken pancake. All in all they were excellent, althought the shrimp tempura was a little to the salty side. I would definitely recommend this to any friends who wanted decent quality Japanese food at a fair price.

new theme....

suddenly felt like changing up the blog.. I was contemplating using a photoblog theme but then I don't think I will have the dedication to upload one each day unless I can upload from mobile.. too bad my acct doesn't support it booo...

i should really change it for a more winter theme... =P Sorry Brian I know this is not a very "gender neutral theme" but hey.. at least its not pink ;)

woohoo TV had arrived...

After going through much pain in following up, calling, shouting.... we finally got our TV after almost one month. That's gotta be the worst experience ever!! The sales person was so unprofessional, he promises you the world and gives you nil... He told us when we first bought it that it will arrive at the store in a few days.. a week went by and the TV had not arrived yet. He then called us and said that our TV is on its way, its be hold up for us for mid Nov.. followed by a correction the same day that its going to come Nov. 23rd. Guess What, Brian and I went to FS on Sunday, the day before we should pick up our TV and found out that there are TV there but none were reserved for US. What made us furious was that there was no order in the system to hold any or to deliver any from the warehouse WTF!!!!! Brian almost ripe the manager head off that day although it wasn't really his fault but hey.. if it wasn't for that, we wouldn't have gotten our TV on that same day!... I really can't believe those ppl sometimes... you get nowhere if you are nice!!

We love our TV... o i think we got jip with the planet earth on craigslist... its so much noise I am wondering if its the real thing... no more craigslist for me!!!!

First Day of Work

First Day back to work isn't exactly as productive as I thought... still in this vacation mode.

It's a suprise to me that my coworkers decorated my desk and put signs everywhere saying "welcome back brian!" I was quiet happy to see that I'm actually missed :)

I spent the first hour cleaning off 2 months of dust at my desk and the rest of the day I was replying to email and trying to be productive. My boss is too busy to give me an update on all the projects. He did mention that I'll be doing more future planning stuff instead of all the reactive projects.

After work Winnie & I got home and checked on Yoshi to take him to the washroom before we head back out to order our furniture. Yoshi actually didn't pee on the carpet or anything for the whole day! We'll keep him unlock from now on since he's been soo good :)

After dinner, cleaning and everything it was already 10:30pm. Hopefully it'll be better later on when we don't have to visit the supermarket after work :)

New gadgets for the kitchen..

After spending a couple hours unpacking boxes for the kitchen, we compiled a list of items that were missing in order to make it functional. we were missing rice cooker and microwave, spoons, chopsticks, salt, sugar holder and a whole bunch of misc stuff.

So here are the bigger ticket items we bought, we also got bar stool!

http://www.zojirushi.com/ourproducts/ricecookers/np_hbc.html

=)

o we also got two bar stools!!

back to reality tomorrow

hmm.. after a few weeks pack with life changing events.. tomorrow is back to work day.... I think I need to take a week off just to relax =P

Wedding was awesome.. Thank you all for coming, Brian and I both had an amazing time! Honeymoon was pretty good.. I bit more hectic than I had imagine but it was jam pack with exploration. So much site seeing that I am begining to mix up places lol...

lessons learned #1.. IF YOU WANT IT, BUY IT!! Florence is a shopping heaven.. I really regret not buying that pair of shoes >.< I want to buy a ticket just to go back for that!!

lessons learned #2.. IF YOU PLAN TO HAVE AN INTENSE VACATION, PLEASE TAKE A FEW DAYS OFF WORK AFTER THE TRIP... I am so tired right now!!

MOST IMPORTANT LESSON #3.. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GET MARRIED, RENOVATE/BUY A HOUSE, MOVE YOUR 20 ODDS YEARS OF BELONGING AND GO ON 2 WEEKS HONEYMOON AT THE SAME TIME!!!

Will blog more about the trip later! Night everyone!!

Mr. & Mrs. Chow

Hi! GUESS WHAT! We are MARRIED! OKAY BYE BYE!!!

We got our HOUSE!!

Apologize for not posting sooner.. Brian and I got our house on tuesday after 130 days of wait. It's all worth it =) The previous owner kept the house extremely clean, Its almost like its never been lived in before lol... Brian and I will spend most of this week and weekend re-painting the house since both Brian and I are not a fan of the salmon pink and hot pink colour they chose.
I have picked out the colours already for the living room.. I thinkt it might be a little dark for the purple =(.. I really like the revere pewder colour they have tho =) Can't wait to see the results of it.

I will try to post some before and after photos after the wedding went we have some time lol!! o.. guess what.. I AM SICK!! the WORST timing ever!! I am so busy at work finishing off work before I pass them on to my poor colleagues (Amalan & Patsy) who will have to back me up when I am away... The list from prev., nothing much has been checked off either lol.. I think I am starting to procrasinate yikes!!

alright, I should get back to work..

soon soon soon....soon soon soon soon soon... soon soon soon...

As Brian mentioned in his previous post, YES we are getting our keys in 2 days!! I am super excited!! We went with our parents to see the house today, my mom was so blunt and complained really loudly at the paint colour and how ugly the decor was in the kitchen while the owner are there!!! "SHHHHHHHHH" haha she is horrible, my dad on the other hand kept just concluding that we need no painting or reno in the house.. and Brian AGREED!! he was suppose to be on MY SIDE argh!! anyways.. its our house so I am going to do what I WANT!! FOR ONCE lol!! Hopefully we can get all the bathroom and Bedroom repainted before our wedding.

It was a very productive day, I went with Rebecca to try on her Bridesmaid dress. SHE LOOKS GORGEOUS! I wish I could be as skinny as her >.< Rebecca was also kind enough to go with me to try my gown and evening dress on for fitting. They look so good, I LOVE THEM!!

I also picked out a pendant that Brian's mom want to get me as a wedding gift. I think it will look really good with the evening dress on my wedding night =) hehehe....

hmm.. Everyone kept asking me whats left to do so here it is:
  1. make drink menu for banquet
  2. make dinner menu with seating list
  3. make program for ceremony and photo session
  4. finalize slideshow (Thanks for your help Amalan!!)
  5. finalize seating plan (90% COMPLETED)
  6. finalize rundown with MC, Photographer, GM, Helper
  7. fitting for Brian and Groomsmen
  8. final fitting for my dresses
  9. fitting and final fitting for bridesmaid
  10. buy drinks and accessories for open bar
  11. make money box for reception
  12. MAKE SPEECH
  13. make final payment (flowers, hall, mc/dj. photographer, signage person)

Getting the Keys

Two days away from getting the keys to our new house!
We went to the lawyers last Thursday to get all the paper work signed.
There's like a pile of paper that Winnie & I both had to sign and the lawyer explained everything to us about what each one of them meant.

p.s. We will walk into the house together on that day :P I'll make sure your foot steps in before mine :)

Awesome Jack and Jill Weekend | Niagara, ON

Thank you all for coming to Brian and my Jack and Jill weekend. We both had a blast and Brian had a great time yelling (speaking loudly at people) after a few drinks lol....

Wine Tours
We had a great turnout at the winery and dinner.. way over what we had expected since I had to call the restaurant a couple times to change the number of reservation =P. At first, I was planning to head to 12 different wineries but that didn't really happened lol.. We started the tour at 3pm (which was a mistake..) we went to about 4 wineries only because most closes at 6pm boooo.. The wine at 20 bees was really good value, lol I got one for 6 bucks and Allan got a ice wine for 20 dollar! We headed to Hillebrand Winery just down the street from 20 bees... it was a much nicer winery and they had complimentary tasting of their cab franc ice wine.. it was really really good.. too bad its $ 80 for a bottle =P Thayani and I both bought a bottle of Trius Red from there after sampling it, I find that it goes down quite smooth, it almost reminded me of a wine that I had sampled from the wine and cheese show a couple years ago. yummy..... Afte that we went to Konzelman Winery and spent 20 minutes outside taking photos lol. I can't believe you can see the CN Tower from Niagara on the lake, thats CRAZY!. Shortly after we went inside, Brian realized that our discovery pass coupon will expire at 5pm today and we have 10 left to spend on wine and food pairing, we quickly dashed out of Konzelman and went to Peller for their wine pairing since their food are usually pretty good there. We caught the last tour for Wine and food pairing and were able to try their 3 course sampling. The food was not as good as expected and service was horrible. The lady really didn't want to serve us!! After Peller, we stopped by Lailey and Reif right before their closing and bought a couple bottles but we didn't get a chance to try any wine from them since their tasting bar had closed. Note: next time go EARLY!!

Casino
Since we finished our wine tasting early, we decided to stop by the casino before dinner. Brian and I played $20 at slots and won 300 dollars!! our first win at slot machine (what a good start!!) =D After that, I make sure we promptly leave the building before we loose the 300 dollars that we won lol.

Copa Cabana Brazillian Steakhouse
We had our reservation at 8pm and were there 30 mins early, unfortunately our table weren't were so we had to wait for about 45 mins to get our seats. It was many guests' first time to Copa Cabana, I think most of them really enjoyed it. Althought I wish the food will be a little less salty, I guess they did that on purpose so we couldn't have too much. In hindsight, it wasn't really a great idea to go there considering that I am trying to control the amt of food that I in take before the wedding. There was no control what-so-ever at Copa Cabana YIKES!

Haunted House
Everyone was stuffed after dinner and didn't want to go back to the lodge for more food and drinks, so we decided to go to the haunted house. (also mainly because Gabe and Cam really want to drag Brian there lol!) At first, I didn't want to go in but Maggie convinced me :P It wasn't as bad as I thought. I guess cuz I was in the middle of the pack and lucked out. All in all, it was a fun experience and I can check that off my "been there, done that list"

Drinks & Slap Jack @ Great Wolf Lodge
We headed back to the lodge after for some partying/drinking. I think we drank quite a bit, we finished a bottle of Alize , 2/3 of the vodka and 1/3 or the rum, everyone just mainly drank shot. Slap Jack was a pretty fun drinking game, I think I might play that again in our house warming party =P It really punishes the drunken since you need quick response in order not to drink haha!! I think it was mission accomplished since Brian was pretty gone by the end of it (when we got a noise complaint @ 2am). You can tell when he starts yelling and demanding at people. The classic moment was when Brian dared Toney to finish off all the shots that were left by playing Rock, Paper & Scissor. He lost and just left to go to bed without finishing the drinks. hahaha....

Final activity for the weekend: Water Park
Sunday was purely waterpark, we started at around 11:30 and finished at 3pm. It was neat since I haven't gone to a waterpark for like 10 years. The last time I was on a water slide was at Miliken Rec Centre in Markham when I was in Gr. 9 I think hahaha.... Maybe next time we can try the one closer to Niagara Falls.

Thanks everyone for coming, it was a fun and eventful weekend. I need another weekend to recover from the past weekend =P

J&J Weekend

Looking forward to the weekend!
Gonna have a blast with everyone!

fine details...

Brian and I met up with our Emcee yesterday to go through the wedding day run down. We are left with some homework and things to think about.

Brian and I each picked our song to enter the wedding ceremony with, I think it will be very interesting lol... the trickiest part will be the grand entrance lol.. Brian and I are both not very creating and are not too crazy lol..

Looking forward to Oct 11th, 2009!! It's 24 days away!!!

Maggie & Gabe | Sept 13th, 2009

Brian and I attended Maggie & Gabe's Wedding. We are really happy for the two of them! It reminds me that our own wedding is really just around the corner. I am starting to feel a little nervous and excited at the same time. I hope I won't cry too much =P

Weekend Shopping - Sofa- PS3 Slim

We've been really busy this past weekend.

We finalized the sofa that we wanted on Friday after work and made a deposit, the sofa won't be ready till end of November - which isn't a bad thing for us - we got some time to save up the money to pay it off. :)

We played 2 hours of badminton after that with a few friends and headed to dinner at Time Square. It was quite fun, hopefully we can have time to relax between now to our wedding day.

On Saturday we took Yoshi for his hair cut and we went to my newphews full moon dinner in the evening & we also went to my sisters to test out our brand new PS3 SLIM!!! :) Sweet deal at Superstore - no tax weekend. We also ended up buying an extra controller, street fighter 4, & the PS3 remote. Our main purpose of the PS3 is to use it as a blu-ray player.

Sunday - we packed a bit of stuff at my house today and went back to Winnie's to pack all her cooking stuff and shoes in the basement into boxes. So far I think she has 21 Dell box of stuff to move to the new house later. I have 6 :)

honeymoon booked!!

WE finally booked our honeymoon woohooooo.... I was so concerned that we might not be able to find anything.... =P Guess where we are going? EUROPE!!! :D

Our trip will be one day short of two weeks which is nice =) and it will be jam pack with activities. we are going to spend a couple days at Barcelona, go on a cruise to Rome, Florence, Cannes, Naples and Portofino and then we will conclude our trip with a short stay at Paris where Brian and I had our first trip together. Its almost like reliving the moments we shared when we first started dating each other.

I managed to keep my cost pretty low for this trip which I am quite proud of :D ( I think I should reward myself with a shopping spree in Europe lol)
Flight = $1900 for two people including stopover @ Paris
Cruise = $1600 for two people including tax
Hotel @ Barcelona = $350 for 3 nights
Hotel @ Paris = $FREE by using Starwood points woohooo

so far the per person cost before spending and transportation is around $1900 which is so much cheaper compare to deals we see that costs $2500 per person for just flight and 7 days of cruising =)

Pre-Wedding Gift Ceremony - 過 大 禮

Our families had the 過 大 禮 today and it went really well. I think both side parents spent a lot of time running around and getting really random things for this ceremony. There are a lot of little items to get and symbolizes different good wishes for the marriage.

Brian's family came over to our house this morning at 11:00am to present us with their gift, it included a red pocket, a gift basket filled with different dried seeds and fruits, two large bags of dried seafood, two boxes of chinese pastry, two pairs of coconuts, two can of tea leaves etc.. Everything needs to come in pairs to symbolize good luck.

From the girl side, we bought pants, belt and wallet for the groom, red pocket, two cake, two fried dough ball, a pair of ginger, some leaves, a basket of fruits that has pairs of a lot of different fruits, tea leaves etc...

After the gift, we went for dim sum with the extended family... I am supprise that both moms had so much to chat about.. I think today went really well!! We are off to a good start! =D

Kitchen Toys WANTED!!

our house closing is less than a month away.... I have so much things that i want to get for our new house!! This is so exciting.... I will have a kitchen of my own!!! As I had mentioned in my previous post, Brian and I went back to get measurement of our house, I realized that our kitchen is not very big with very little counter space =( I am trying to minimize the items that we will need to place on the counter. We found this Instant hot item that you can put into your sink. Its from a company called Insinkerator. It creates a separate faucet at your kitchen sink where you can get instant hot drinkable water. It eliminate the need for a water boiler =) but its also damn expensive. I think its approx. $500 :S

Another thing I wanted is this cool grind and brew coffee maker =) but I think we probably won't purchase this one since I already have an espresso machine at home.

honeymoooon....

I found a pretty good deal at Travelzoo a round trip flight to Barcelona, Spain for $850 including taxes and a free stop over to Paris =) It would be special to revisit Paris since there's where we took our first trip together =)

I am just trying to search for accommodation or cruise deal.. so far, I found courses around the 800 - 900 range including tax.. let me know if you guys see any good deals =) I really want to go to europe for honeymoon!!

dresses are here...

I just called to check up on the bridesmaid dresses and they told me they just received it yesterday and the girls can go try them on mid-Sept or when they feel that their size won't change from that point to the wedding =P My dress also came back already YAY!!! I will be trailing it in Sept as well...

Aside from that, Brian and I made some progress with our wedding plan, we have met with our Photographer and Make Up Artist and have a preliminary timeline in place, I will need to work on that some more to include a detail schedule for everyone and their tasks... time to really utilize my project management skills =P

For our photo, we were thinking instead of having a photo and then a guessbook, we will have our photo enlarged and expand the background and have ppl sign our photo instead of a guessbook. I am still playing around with the idea of having a photobooth type thing where guest can take photos and write comments on a card. I will have to check out the cost and price it out.

Productive Evening

It's been a very production evening tonight. Winnie & I went back to her parents house for dinner tonight and we did some wedding stuff - did a preliminary count of our wedding list. We also went to Michael's and bought two stack of thank you card & a basket for this coming Sunday's Chinese Pre-Wedding ceremony? (Gor Dai Lai)

Didn't know time flew by so quickly tonight - made a call into TD, sent a few emails, printed the remaining invitation for family members & also registered for a course for the coming week.

My mom also told me that she finally told her boss at work that she will no longer work night shifts. Which is a good thing, hopefully she'll slowly start to also quit the day time job and go out more with Dad instead of working.

Thanks Winnie for being supportive in everything I do!

Oh I also received my new passport in less than 2 weeks! That was quick!!

Relaxing Saturday...

Brian and I took a break from furniture hunting and wedding planning on Saturday... well.. we tried anyways! That morning, we went to TD to meet up with Amanda to finalize our mortgage, we got our 3.39% mortgage rate YAY!!! Our first mortgage payment will be on Oct 23rd biweekly :S After signing our life away and joined the in debt for life group, we decided to really take a break and do something fun!

We went to CNE and wasted some money on their games, Brian and I had this idea of setting up all the games from CNE in our basement to practice for next year. We really wanted to win that ATV for his nephew lol... We spent the majority of our time in the exhibition its self.. We saw a couple paintings and wall decor that we really like but we didn't buy them because they are not our priority (and in case my colour scheme changes last minute). We did end up buying some rubber broom and some 1000 threadcount Egyptian bed sheets and duvet covers =) they were $ 30 (1 flat, 1 fitted, 1 pillow case) and $22 (duvet covers) not bad price i thought =) Brian and I also tried some massage chairs =D can't wait to have one in my own house =D

After CNE, I treated Brian to Lees(mainly cuz I have been craving for their Singaporean Slaw 4ever!) They have a susurlicious going on right now $35 for 3 course menu, really good deal!! Brian and I ordered one tasting menu and 2 other dishes, as usual, we ordered too many food lol.
Our order includes:
  1. Jerk Chicken Crepe
  2. Spicy Skirt Steak
  3. Braised Beef
  4. Singaporean Slaw
  5. Strawberry Puree with Riesling topped with Vanilla Ice Cream
My Review:
$45-50 per person (w/out alcohol)
Food: 4 out of 5 Stars
Price: 3 our of 5 Stars

I am glad Brian and I took advantage of the susurlicious, it gave us a chance to try more things for the value =) My favourite is still the Singaporean Slaw, althought i thought it would be better we its shared amongst 3 or 4 ppl rather than two because towards the end, it wasn't as savouring as the first couple bites... I also find that you really need to mix it really well cuz the last bit of the plate has too much sauce. Beef was as good as I remembered from last time, it really does remind me of chinese style braised beef except its way more tender here. it melts in your mouth! I think they uses beef shank here. the Jerk Chicken Crepe was also very good. They made the sauce with Mango chutney topped to a few slices of avacado which neutralized the spiciness of the jerk seasoning and the mango chutney. I didn't quite enjoy the strawberry puree, I thought it was a little too sour for Brian and my taste. Overall, it was a very great meal and service was excellent! I would highly recommend this place.

Happy Campers!

Getting closer

hmm.. there's less than 2 months left from our wedding and that means its really time to get serious with my weight loss goal!! Patsy, Christine and I started hot yoga, we went on Monday and Tuesday but were too late for Wednesday and Thursday.. Need to try harder next week. I also started my toning and sculpting programing at Leslie Spa. Its twice a week for approx 2 hours per session, they will use various machine to help detox, tone, shape and all the necessary magic.. (I hope). My mom is also going to put me on some strict diet, hopefully we will see some results.

After 9 months, I finally tried on my wedding dress again and guess what.. its way too big for me.. woohoo.. but I will also need to alter it.. hopefully it will turn out okay! I think i need to take an inch off both sides of the dress... and the little wired ring at the bottom now seems really big, I am not sure what to do with that... and I also don't really like the chinese dress.... yikes but I guess i will just stick with it since I should spend extra money to buy more...

We went to our photography & make up place today to discuss time needed for photography and make up. Apparently it will take 1.5 hours for me and approx 45 mins to 1 hour per person for the rest of the ladies in the wedding party.. I guess we will have to wake up early after all.

We are also planning our Jack and Jill.. Hopefully it will work out =)

Home Insurance

I was off Friday - woke up pretty early to get my passport renewed - got there before they open... but the line was already 20+ people! took me about an hour to get it all done

Called up home insurance companies today to get a quote for our new house - all the questions they ask are similar but all worded somewhat differently? and they speak too fast for me to write things down... and they will not mail / email you a detail quote either... the only one that's willing to do so is TD.

So far we've quoted 3 places
- CIBC online - $950+tax / year
- TD - $375 tax included / year * we have Ryerson Alumni discount
- Belair Direct - $787.32 tax included / year

so far looks like TD is the cheapest

Revisiting...

Just realized that we bought our house two and a half months ago. We booked an appt to get measurement of the rooms within our house yesterday to get an idea of how big of a furniture we can get. I missed our house! Can't wait until we can finally live in it!!.

Another thing I learn is never take the floor plan size as gospel. We went and measure and everything is off lol.. it said that my family room is 13" by 14" but when me measure, it was 12.4" by 12.4". I also realized that our kitchen counter space is quite small so we really need to make an effort to buy less appliances so we don't have appliances taking up the entire space.

48 days to go before we are proud homeowners.... woohoooo

Flower Maddness

Brian and I booked our florist and chose our flowers for the wedding the past weekend. Thanks Amy for helping me identify flowers lol.... The prices are i think average but the lady seems to be very responsible and RESPONSIVE unlike others... We went to the store at Pacific Mall cuz I really like her flowers and the way she puts things together. We went way back in March to get estimate and she said it was too soon and asked us to come back after mother's day. So we went two weeks ago, she apologized and said she is really busy that day and didn't have time to chat and want to spend time with me...She promised that she would be available on Friday.. a little annoyed but I waited and went on Friday with Brian to find out that she is busy AGAIN!! she had some emergency business that she needs to handle..she said "Why didn't you call??" WTF.... you told me you are going to be free... so the usual thing, she asked me to come back the next day.... Needless to say... I didn't go back and just went with the florist at Chartwell!

This shows that it doesn't matter how good your prices are and how nice your product is, if you have bad customer service, you will loose customers!!

There's my rage for the week ;)

Wedding Party Paragraph - received! from the Guys

I finally received all the paragraphs for all the guys ... :) Wayne, Henry, & Greg.

Will need to edit a bit before posting :P

Thanks Guys - should be up on the website soon :)

two step process to be legally married

Apparently there's a two step process to be legally married in Canada.

First you'll have to apply for a marriage license application and bring it to the nearest civic center and submit the application and pay about $130 dollars.

Winnie & I filled in the application last week and I went to submit the application last Friday.

They provided a document that we need to both sign during the day of our wedding in front of the minister and he'll submit that to the government.

Four weeks later we can then apply for the official marriage certification to proof that we're legally married.

One more item checked off on our list!

dresses...

buying dresses for the two mothers are getting quite time consuming lol... My mom is now questioning the dress that she choose and wonder if she should get something more formal. So we will be going for another session of dress shopping I think next week.

Brian and I went with his mom to buy her dress the past weekend, we went to several stores at pacific mall looking at Chinese traditional outfit but none seem to fit her nicely, after two hours of searching and some convincing over the phone from Brian's sister, she decided to get her's custom made. Hopefully that would turn out nice and more fitting. Her first fitting is Sept 8th, hopefully it will look okay. We might have to go get the day dress at another day.

YAY... more items to check off the list!

More Items to check off

It was a very productive weekend for Brian and my wedding planning. I got my mom a new outfit for our wedding, we just need a top for the morning and a pair of shoes :D, We spend most of the day looking for Eric's suit, my parents really wanted me to get Eric a suit for the wedding. At first we were going to rent but it cost over 100 to rent a suit so I thought I might as well fork out another 100 to buy him a suit so he can wear it on the cruise and also at his job interviews. (I am such a nice sister I know...) hopefully Brian wouldn't mind since its not within our wedding budget =P

Finding the suit was painful with my brother's awkward body, if the suit top is perfect, the bottom is too small... and the ones where you can choose different top and bottom sizes are like over $500 dollars :S We finally found one after four hours of shopping.. orginal price was 799 now with special discount comes out to be $250.

Now, I just need to get shoes for both my mom and Eric.

Flowers... expensive flowers

My sister and I went to see a florist yesterday to cost out the flowers we need for the wedding. This is our list:
  • 1 Brides bouquet
  • 3 Bridesmaid bouquet
  • 1 Grooms Boutonniere
  • 3 Groomsman Boutonniere

We WON...

I am sure I have complained to a lot of people about my closing date is two days over our mortgage approval period for the lower rate. Brian and I took a gamble and didn't lock in a new rate hoping that we can negotiate a 2 days earlier closing.. We had been waiting to hear back from the seller and yesterday, our agent emailed Brian and told him that the seller could close earlier!! woohooo... I think we saved 4000 over 5 years..(just the money we had estimated for pot lights lol...) I am just going to think that we got free pot lights for the house hahahaha

Invitations 80% completed...

Brian Amy and I spent the whole night stuffing envelops for my wedding invitation.. after five hours of hard work and a whole bunch of confusion.. we finally got 80% of the invitations ready. Woohoooo!!!

There is definitely an art to addressing people.. we had to redo all our oversee invitations because they were address the female of the family which is a big nono.. after calling my grandparents whom gave my parents a huge lesson on what to do lol... o and apparently, the invitation should be sent out or addressing family members from my dad.. cuz apparently its my dad that is suppose to be sending out invitations!

well.. we all got SKOOLED!!

cleaning...

so instead of trying to put together our wedding invitations, we spent a whole weekend packing up my room and painting. The entire basement is full of boxes (I am amused at how much crap I can pack into my room lol...) I should have taken a before picture... but I must say, my room looks amazing right now. It looks like how it was 10-15 years ago before I had money to buy anything of my own lol.. I guess I had accumulated quite the treasure/junk over the years.

Whats next on my wedding plan hmm..
  1. WEDDING INVITATIONS... (its coming... really)
  2. Florist... need to do some shopping around NOW
  3. DIET ahhhhhhhhhhhhh... this is proven to be quite challenging argh..

Invitations are here!

We finally got all the items we had purchase in our HK Trips. We got our invitations the past weekend. We really should get moving on them since ppl are suppose to RSVP by September 1st or something Yikes!

I need to get my website done soon! o... Brian and I picked the song that we will be dancing to for our first dance. I am still trying to find Yiruma music.. I think that would be good music to play at the cocktaill reception.

I have to admit there are quite a bit of work thats involve with buying a house and getting married at the same time.. and to make this more interesting, my parents decided to renovate the house NOW which means I have to pack up my room for them to paint and repolish the hardwood flooring.

Man.. I need 48 hours day.

new finds... :D

I saw a really good deal on DVD Home Theater Systems at Costco's website today. Its 269.99, a discount for over 200 dollars. =) hmm.. home theater systems is not on my must buy list but it seems like its such a good deal.. we do need a dvd player... hmm.. thoughts?

Are we behind?

I am starting to think that my wedding planning is beginning to slip. My invitations is coming any minute right now but my website is far from finish? argh... I really need to work on that this weekend. I found this wedding planning book and it has a very useful list of things that i need to plan out for the wedding.. Its really helpful cuz I never thought about music lol.. like our entrance music, first dance, song to play during ceremony, reception =P need to really get on some of those outstanding taskssss!

We just got our wedding invitations from Gabe and Maggie yesterday woohoo... Wedding in September! so exiting!!! I hope they are not as behind as us =P

looking forward to the future....

things have not really gone the way I wanted this year...but I am looking forward to the wedding & post wedding when Winnie & I will be starting our journey together.

hope things will go well for this year ...

Thanks for the support baby!

getting ideas

LCBO

With the possibility of LCBO strike, we decided to buy our wine for the wedding a little earlier. When we went into the LCBO yesterday, it was really busy, shelves are being emptied out. I wonder if ppl have a mild case of alcohol addiction or if they are just afraid of the "What ifs..." Brian and I went to the LCBO at Kennedy Commons and we found that the wine we want is actually on sale woohooo... but then we realize they were out of stock boooo. We called the location at McCowan and Finch and they had a lot left so we quickly went and bought 25 bottles of the red wine we chose. Althought chances of the strike lasting long would not be very high but its not a necessary risk that we need to take. "lol.. i just finish my PMP exam, I am all about risk management planning lol"

Speaking of PMP exam.. I PASSED!! woohoo.. now its time to focus on wedding stuff. my next most pressing item is my website. I need to get on that ASAP.

Growing up...

After the excitement of "YES WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!" comes the stress of finalizing mortgage, home insurance, lawyer documents etc.... we were both a little annoyed cuz we were two days short of locking in our mortgage rate (max lock in period is 120 days) our closing was just 122 days away when interest rate went up argh!!!! I HATE TIMING!

I realize there are so much more to consider after owning a house. You worry about your job more.. the chances of not having a job... it seems like you lost a bit of the freedom to make decisions, its no longer "I don't like it, I will quit!".. What about the mortgage? Will we loose our house? shooot.. we don't have any money save up for rainy days... sometimes you feel so vulnerable, any small alteration could create huge changes in your lifestyle...

I guess that's part of growing up...

Snoopy?

I have always wanted to make a Yoshi house (snoopy house imitation) for my cuddly... but I don't know who and where to even start... when I spoke with Patsy yesterday... she asked Kelly to see if he can make one.."HE SAID YES!!" woohoo.. Yoshi has got a new home tooo "THANKS KEL!!"
I want to paint this white with a red roof and a black door. SOOO CUTE!

Biggest Purchase EVER!

WE BOUGHT OUR FIRST HOME!!!
After months of searching and disappointment's we finally found a home that we both love....
We tried to put in an offer on the Saturday but the seller was not available.. we were so worried that there will be multiple bidders for the offer, good thing there wasn't because of their late closing date. We started the negotiation at around 10pm (by we, I meant our realtor going to negotiate on our behalf) took about 4 iterations and 3 hours later.. we finally got our house $9,000 less than the asking price. woohooo!!!!! My heart was pounding so hard in the last 30 mins.. Brian and I were both really nervous and really wanted to get the house. (that is partly due to the fact that house hunting is extremely time consuming and we were both getting restless)
now... presenting "OUR HOME"
Its a single garage detach home in Markham approx. 2100 sq. ft.
The home fitted most of our requirements
  • detach home
  • 1800-2300 sq ft
  • open to above living space
  • open concept kitchen
  • en-suite master bedroom
  • main floor laundry
Only thing it doesn't have is double garage and the bedrooms are a bit tinier than what we wanted=P
here it is....

LOVE IT!!

Our closing is in October, ONE WEEK before our wedding. Its going to be a busy October!
